Dear Friends,
Do you realize that every time you leave your house you enter a world that has embraced “radical secularism?” Do you know how much it is trying to change you? One online source defines radical secularism as “an ideology that… actively seek[s] to exclude religion from the public square and marginalize religious influence in society.”
This cultural trend can be seen on TV, in our schools, in our newspapers, and in people at work. It has even crept into some of our churches. This is a timely program, something that you need to hear and understand.
It is also something that you need to share with your family, children, grandchildren, and teach in your small group studies, and Sunday school classes in your church. It’s that important!
My guest who will help us navigate this new world is Dr. Erwin Lutzer, who pastored the great Moody Church in Chicago for 35 years. He has written many best-selling books, including “The Eclipse of God.”
What does his title mean? Think about what happens during an eclipse. The moon comes between the earth and the sun and blocks sunlight from reaching the earth. Dr. Lutzer’s point is that today radical secularism is hiding the light of God from us here on earth, in much the same way as the moon hides the sun.
Let me share with you a few points you will find in his book and that we will also be talking about on our TV program.
Because we have embraced the new sinful ideas of radical secularism, what has happened?
We are seeing the unraveling and destruction of our culture, with the loudest voices frequently winning the argument no matter how wrongheaded, divisive, and irrational.
We are, in effect, being asked to believe that two plus two equals five; that men can have babies; that children in grade school should question their gender; and that drag shows should be allowed in schools.
We are in a spiritual battle. There are invisible forces bringing darkness to the land that is set on destroying any light that threatens to expose it.
This is not just a clash of worldviews, but a clash of spiritual forces attempting to overthrow the God of heaven.
The culture war has come to us; we didn’t seek it, but win or lose, we must stand against it without losing our testimony for the gospel.
All throughout history, Christians have been called to faithfully represent Christ in the midst of a pagan culture. We have been given the privilege of standing for Christ with grace and strength, even if we face great personal cost.
Darkness is being protected and normalized while light is being vilified and criminalized. The speed and extent of the changes taking place in our society should shake us into reality.
I am calling this series with Dr. Lutzer, “Why Culture Can’t Redefine God.” I pray these programs will renew your faith in God by replacing worldly misperceptions of Him with biblical promises and truths about His unchanging character.
