The Qur’an calls Jesus a prophet. Yet most of the teachings of Jesus are found in the Injil (the New Testament) that the Qur’an considers one of the four Scriptures revealed by Allah (Surah 3:3; 5:46; 19:30). What does the Injil say about Jesus?
First, the Injil says Jesus came from heaven to earth to live among people:
“
The Word [Jesus or Isa] became flesh and made his dwelling among us” (John 1:14). He was alive before living on earth. Jesus was unique among all people.
Second, the Injil teaches Jesus lived without sin:
“…we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin” (Hebrews 4:15). To live without sin is beyond the actions of any other prophet or person.
Third, the Injil teaches Jesus died on a cross and came alive again on the third day:
“Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day” (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). He is the only person to ever die and come back to life by his own power.
What can we conclude from this information? Jesus (Isa) is more powerful than any person or prophet. His actions were kind, loving, and perfect. Further, Jesus came to offer people eternal life and forgiveness of sins. In Islam, it is taught that forgiveness must be earned. Eternal life in paradise is uncertain except through death in holy war (jihad). Yet Jesus offers a better way. Look at what he says it takes to receive forgiveness and eternal life:
- We can be forgiven: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).
- We can receive eternal life: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
Would you like to be forgiven from every wrong you have done? The Injil says you can be forgiven by confessing your wrongs to him. Would you like to have a new life and know you will be with God forever? Jesus teaches you can have eternal life by believing in him as God’s only son. If you would like to believe in Jesus today, you can make this decision right now. You can say something like this to God:
“God, I know I need your forgiveness. Please forgive me of my wrongs. I would like to have a new life today. I want to have eternal life with you. I believe in Jesus, Isa, as the Son of God who died and came to life again. I accept Jesus as the Lord of my life.”
If this is your prayer, the Injil promises, “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9). This means your sins are forgiven and you have eternal life with God. As a Muslim, you may have many other questions about Jesus. Take time today to do two things. First, pray to ask God for wisdom to learn more about Jesus. Second, begin to study the Injil. You can read it in your language or listen to it now at
