7 Days of Thanksgiving

Written by R.L. Wilson | Nov 3, 2025 5:15:08 PM

As we enter the season of Thanksgiving, our hearts are drawn to gratitude—to pause, reflect, and give praise to the Lord for who He is and all He has done. Thanksgiving isn’t simply a day on the calendar; it’s a posture of the heart. It’s a rhythm of worship that flows from recognizing God’s steadfast love, His faithfulness through every season, and His unchanging righteousness even when our circumstances shift.

Throughout Scripture, and especially in the Psalms, we find a repeated call to give thanks—to sing, to rejoice, to remember, and to trust. Each psalm is a reminder that gratitude is not dependent on our situation, but on God’s character. Whether in moments of joy or hardship, celebration or sorrow, the psalmists teach us that giving thanks anchors our souls in truth.

This week’s devotional journey through the Psalms invites us to cultivate that same spirit of thankfulness.

  • Day 1 reminds us to give thanks because God is righteous and worthy of praise.
  • Day 2 shows us that gratitude springs from trust in a God who hears and answers prayer.
  • Day 3 celebrates the Lord’s mercy that turns our mourning into joy.
  • Day 4 points to the vastness of God’s love and faithfulness woven into creation itself.
  • Day 5 reveals the compassion and forgiveness of a God who listens when we cry out.
  • Day 6 calls us to proclaim His steadfast love and faithfulness to every generation.
  • Day 7 reminds us that it is good to give thanks—to declare His love in the morning and His faithfulness at night.
  • And finally, Psalm 100 lifts our hearts in a joyful song of thanksgiving, proclaiming that the Lord is good, His mercy is everlasting, and His faithfulness endures forever.

As you walk through these passages, may your heart be filled anew with gratitude. Let each psalm draw you closer to the heart of the One who is always worthy of our thanks.

Day 1 - Psalm 7:17

I will give thanks to the Lord because of his righteousness; I will sing the praises of the name of the Lord Most High.

Life is to be lived thanking and praising God, even when the present situations do not seem to warrant this. (NIV Biblical Theology Study Bible)

Day 2 – Psalm 28:6-7

Praise be to the Lord, for he has heard my cry for mercy. The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I will praise him.

In his hour of need, the psalmist prayed to God for help because he believed that God listens and responds. The psalmist’s hope was not disappointed. (NIV Jesus Bible)

Day 3 – Psalm 30:4-5

Sing the praises of the Lord, you his faithful people; praise his holy name. For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.

The Lord’s anger ceases when people repent. He delights to extend favor for a lifetime, even to a thousand generations (Deut. 7:9).(NIV Biblical Theology Study Bible)

Day 4 – Psalm 57:9-10

I will praise you, Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. For great is your love, reaching to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies.

If there’s any doubt about God’s faithfulness as described by the psalmist in Psalm 57:10, think about what it takes to make Earth a sustainable planet. Its precise location within the solar system reveals the brilliance of the Creator. Earth’s placement is so exact, that if its distance from the sun were moved by even 5 percent in either direction, the result would be disastrous. Animal life would be impossible, as the zone for animal life in the solar system is very narrow. (Case for Christ Study Bible)

Day 5 – Psalm 86:5-7

You, Lord, are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call to you. Hear my prayer, Lord; listen to my cry for mercy. When I am in distress, I call to you, because you answer me.

David models a faithful believer’s prayer by pausing to affirm God’s attributes in this first refrain: God forgives, he is good, and he overflows love to all who call upon him…. David has the confidence to call on God now because God has answered him in the past…. God himself assures those who call on him that he does indeed answer. (NIV Biblical Theology Study Bible)

Day 6 – Psalm 89:1-2

I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all the generations. I will declare that your love stands firm forever, that you have established your faithfulness in heaven itself.

The Hebrew word is plural here: “great loves,” probably to reflect on God’s many wonderful deeds (v. 5) that demonstrate that love. The same Hebrew word is singular in v. 2. In light of the harsh questioning of God’s commitment to his covenant promises in vv.  38-45, this affirmation of God’s faithfulness at the outset is important. (NIV Biblical Theology Study Bible)

Day 7 – Psalm 92:1-2

It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name, O Most High, proclaiming your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night.

gratitude. The condition or quality of being grateful; an emotion or sentiment of thankfulness. No motif more adequately recalls the nature of biblical faith than gratitude or thanksgiving. (Zondervan Illustrated Bible Dictionary)

Final Day: A Song of Thanksgiving – Psalm 100

Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth.

Serve the Lord with gladness and delight; Come before His presence with joyful singing.

Know and fully recognize with gratitude that the Lord Himself is God; It is he who has made us, not we ourselves [and we are His]. We are His people and the sheep of his pasture.

Enter his gates with a song of thanksgiving and His courts with praise.

Be thankful to Him, bless and praise His name

For the Lord is good; His mercy and lovingkindness are everlasting, His faithfulness [endures] to all generations.

(Amplified Bible)

The structure of this psalm is fairly simple. The songwriter encouraged the people of God to sing and shout to the Lord and subsequently reminded them why they should. The psalmist then instructed the people of God to give thanks to the Lord. Then, in similar fashion, readers are given a solid, lasting rationale for why their thanksgiving should be unceasing. This psalm prompts worship with the truths of God’s person and deeds.
